Last year we lost our Toby dog to the dreadful Cushings Disease. To say we were/are devastated would be an under statement. We still have the elderly Tilly dog,who has a touch of dementiais deaf and partially sighted, but missed the lunatic Toby and his active ways. We decided a puppy would be too much for Tilly so I have been looking at rescue sights. A few days ago I saw a picture of Fada, a Cockerpoo,on Rescue that is based at La Baule. He loooked so appealing that I tried to get in touch with then and eventually managed by phone. We went to La Baule on Tuesday and saw Fada at his home, an appartment in St Nazaire. His owner, a very nice lady had Fada from a pup, but couldn't cope with him any longer as she was nursing a relative. He bounced his way into the living room like a pogo stick! We decided to adopt him, there and then. His owner was in floods of tears,it was very sad. We left there having signed the adoption papers and loaded down with his basket, toys etc, and were taken straight to the Vet's where Fada had his innoculations and a chip inserted.
Poor boys was sick on the way home but the roads were windy and goodness knows if he had been in a car for any length of time before. Tilly was amazing with him considering he spent the best part of that evening with his nose on her "bits" and attempting to hump her!( he's intact, but won't be by tomorrow evening!)
His first night was uneventful and he woke at 7 to be let out.Last night he decided he didn't want to be left in the kitchen, he wanted us! The array of noises wa quite incredible.Howls, yaps, barks, the whole repertoire. He then scratched the door.......after 15 mins.....silence, bliss!
I got up to them at 8am, he was awake, Tilly asleep. He is such a lovely dog, he has taken up a place behind the settee, and today is eating normally. He loves to chase his ball, and sniffed and peed his way round the lake yesterday with JBC. He is brilliant for us in all sorts of ways. We normally stagger out of bed at 9.30am, so to have a reason to be up at 8 is much better.
I sent his previous owner some pics and a note to say how well he is doing and to reassure her that we would love him and look after him. I received a touching note back from her thanking us for taking him and saying we have big hearts,so lovely. We are so blessed to have him.
