I am sick to death of reading negative articles about the Olympics in the press,sick of hearing them on the TV and just generally fed up with the total lack of enthusiasm about the whole thing!! I realise the country is in a mess, but when the UK won the Olympic bid that was not so much the case. I know it is costing an awful lot of money and it could be argued the money would be better spent elsewhere, however it´s done,the Olympics are being held in London and various other venues in a few days time.How is it being promoted ? by the press printing various stuff about- The Farce of A Security System, The Outcry by Residents Having Missiles on Their Roof,The Barren Looking Restaurant Catering for The Athletes, The State of The Motorways, The Length Of security Checks Queues At Airports, just to highlight a few of the negative articles in the press and media in general. No wonder the country is shot, when as a whole,it cannot generate much enthusiasm for a fantastic event which should showcase the UK´s best features, not emphasise itś worse,it makes me mad but also sad.

For a minute there, with the title, I thought you'd been able to get your washing out on the line! Bring back News of the World

I agree it's the Brit mentality. We are so good at commiserating with each other when times are tough, but useless at praising ourselves when we do something well.
I am ten minutes from Stratford and can tell you that the press has got it wrong. No one is walking about miserable, (apart from the weather), no one is scared about the missiles in our midst, (some of those tower blocks could do with getting blown up anyway), we still drive round London without traffic delays and the streets are looking clean and smartly decorated with flags etc. Of course the media can find a few disgruntled people to interview, but for everyone else it's business as usual with a bit of anticipation in the air.
It makes me sad too BritChick. It's time we Brits started seeing the good in everything.

If you are interested in the games, then yes I am sure it will be a fantastic event. If you are one of the 50% approx who have no interest whatsoever and have heard nothing else for the last seven years then you probably feel like me, totally pi**ed off with the whole thing and can't wait for the closing ceremony, due in no small respect by the total absolute overkill by the media(especially BBC) for the last two years.
I am sorry if this is being negative but I am sick of sport dominating and disrupting the main TV channels. Everyone gets the four BBC and ITV channels now so why can't sport replace some of the programmes on the secondary channels which are mostly repeats anyway.

I was listening to Solent Radio today to the torch going through the CIs, mainland and into Portsmouth. Thoroughly enjoyed listening (was doing other things @ same time as us wimmin do), the stories and the pride of these torch bearers was brilliant and literally 1000's of people were at the events.
If anyone does want to see an Olympic event apparently there is half of the Millenium stadium tickets left for the womans football...........

Why should the athletes get all the medals and the glory. What about the selfless sponsors who have just to make do with the huge protected profits, man cannot flourish with cash alone. So why not award some gongs for this group?
I would nominate for Gold;
Dow Corning, for its involvement in the Humanities. Surely the provider of Napalm, Agent Orange, and the owner of the old Union Carbide Plant in Bhopal (motto - Nowt to do with us Guv) deserves recognition.
Coca-Cola for keeping the world sugar manufactures in business and making it easy to ingest lots of sugar in a cool way.
MacDonalds for services to obesity and population control. Decrease in life expectancy is helpful. Plus assisting the health services in supplying a steady supply of customers.
Omega for showing us, in lovely detailed adverts, what most of us cannot afford.
Lloyds Bank for lots of things....
Any thoughts of yours for silver and bronze?
