I have been given the job of setting the quiz at our local at the weekend - 60 questions and a table quiz of 30 questions.
Nearly finished after a week of trolling the internet and checking the answers.
Just turned on my new laptop and the bl***~dy thing has frozen whilst checking my emails.
Resorted to control -alt - del to try and close it down but it just goes to the switch user setting and i can't evn do that as i can't move the mouse.
Tried switching it off at the buttton but when its on again - same problem
Tried taking the battery out - managed toget into my home page and when i clicked on the quiz it opened . However only 4 questions visible and it froze again.
Cannot remember the questions and no time to do it all again - how can i unfreeze the machine.
ps - it took itself off to do a windows update in the middle of all this.

Bisdu, I can't remember which version of Windows you use, but try pressing F8 to go into safe mode when it's starting up...sounds like your update froze, causing the problem....

Its (horrible) windows 8 Pete.
The first strange thing was when i had just logged on and was about to send an email - i coulnt because it said that my internet access was only local - despite the oh was on his laptop and all was ok there.
Closed it down and started again - no change Tried to do other stuff and it froze After many attempts including taking the battery out all i can do is get past the login page - the mouse works here but when i get onto my homepage it all loads up then freezes.
Tried f8 - no joy - any more ideas..........time is running out for the quiz...............

I'd have a look through this : pcsupport.about.com/od/windows-8/ss/windows-8-safe-mode.htmAt the very least, I'd think that may get you into the computer sufficiently to access your quiz questions. Worst case scenario? You may well have downloaded a virus or trojan (you did say you were checking emails) but I'm thinking you will probably have some antivirus software on the laptop.....please say yes LOL.....

Pete there are developments
Tried the f8 again (a few times) and got into one file (there are 2 and it was the small one) I decided to print it in case I lost it again and got 3/4 page before it froze again.
Tried again from scratch - and now I havent even got a pointer (i know where ir should be because I can locate the position with cntl.
I have mcafee - was newly installed

Bisdu have you tied to do F2 system set up? Your laptop might be overheating which causes freezing.Try a partial window repair. that might help as well.

Update
Thanks all - in the end I had to give up and take it to the computer man - he thinks it is the system that operates the mouse - he manged , using and external mouse to get into the file which i emailed to myself and have now picked up on my other (dicky) laptop so i have my quiz. he will allegedly fix it over the weekend.
Another question - computer man is recommending switching to linus - anyone know/use this and if so what it like (for a technonumpty to use) and would you recommend it
