Think you mean Linux....I'm using Linux Mint (and have been for well over a year) which looks and acts very much like Windows. On my backup laptop, I have Linux Kwheezy which has all the programs you could wish for. There's also Puppy Linux which works from a memory stick but isn't as user friendly. (As you can tell I have all three). There isn't the complex programming as there used to be when it was first developed...oh, best of all it's free......
Mint uses both Chrome and Firefox browsers and you can install Libre Office which handles just about any format of document. Whilst it's not 100% virus proof, threats are usually picked up very quickly and updating the OS is usually pretty quick. I don't run an antivirus program...Wouldn't go back to Microsoft....
Will try a screenshot to give you an idea what it looks like.

Best thing to do is to download it, burn it to a dvd and then use a bootable memory key from the DVD. I'm sure there are loads of 'how to' guides out there about it. Lots of members on the satellite forum I belong to use it, in fact it was them that persuaded me to try it...

yes the computer repair man says he is recomending it to all his clients, but its good to get your independent opinion, just in case he was just trying to sell me something.

Must admit I like Microsoft, had a look at Linux but didn't like it. Fortunately we are all different and like different things.Glad you got your quiz sorted.

Thing is Bisdu, he can't sell you it, it's Open Source software and as such free...

He will charge me €40 to change Pete. Which is worth it to me to not have to work out how to do it myself. I am not good at instructions.

Seems fair enough if you're not confident.....and I guess he will already have a downloaded copy ready to install. May be worth asking if you can make it dual boot....I.E. so you can choose either Windows or Linux but that depends on hardware capabilities and your tech confidence levels LOL
