Goose, capon or turkey........I really can't decide. We always used to have a capon when I was a small kid. It was always ordered from the Milkman (dunno why!) and was a big occassion when it was delivered!

As Christmas is not really celebrated here in Russia till the 7th jan-- was thinking that I might just get a nice big chook instead of a big boy-- and grab a big chunk of boned pork shoulder and salt/marinade it --ready for the day-- ( do like to use a large syringe to inject marinade right into the fresh meat before wrappin and freezin in a ziplock bag--also full of marinade) and a big pack of streaky type bacon for wrappin and stuff

Just back from the annual agony of visiting the UK! Aldi have been advertising 4 birds in one for £9.99 - frozen pack so i bought 3! Not too bad size and quality for the price, meat was a bit dry but my wife just read the instructions and cooked in the foil tin it came in - would have been better in a pyrex closed dish and well basted.
M&S are doing the same sort of thing fresh but you have to pre-order and collect just before Xmas day - not viable for me - cost is £40 or a massive one at £110.
Made a change but think I would prefer a nice leg of succulent lamb!

Turkey + Pork + Sausages wrapped in Bacon. Always the same, always enjoy every mouthfull. Not just the food though is it, it's the day that makes the food that makes the day.

Turkey, with sausages wrapped in bacon, several vegetables which will include, brussels, parsnips and swede (mashed with butter, salt, pepper and cream.. put back in the oven to dry out a little bit), Christmas pudding (made myself) with brandy butter. Roast Gammon joint for evening if anyone wants it, otherwise will be boxing day lunch.

Ok you win (ish) change of heart on the turkey status in the Ali household.... Planning to get a small turkey, debone and put the multi-roast inside it and stitch it back up Should think would need to be careful about how it cooks so not to dry the turkey out tho, but what is life without an experiment of two Love sossidges in bacon too. Did you get the gammon joint from the UK dink or can you get them locally to you? Can't find anything decent here and we adore gammon.
