Our favourite is the St Antoine in Plemet, 22
Took my writers group here last week and they all loved it.
It's a smart restaurant, nice decor, tableware etc and a good French menu. The presentation is nouvelle cuisine, but with quantity.......not just 3 peas on a plate.
I am told that they are up for a Michelin star...not sure, but it would be deserved.
Prices are really reasonable and they open lunchtimes and evenings.

Our all time favourite, rather distant at Montreuil sur Mer just south of Calais. It is called Les Hauts de Montreuil and the food is to die for. With all the cream etc used I probably will die one day after yet another visit. Their website leshautsdemontreuil.fr/index.html# ben |

Food for thought......French food is so strange........best meal we ever had was in France......so was the worst.

We've had some terrible meals in our part of France as well as others of a very high standard. We do look at (and contribute to) Trip Advisor for restaurant reviews but don't always go for the 'best' in a town or area. |

Just to add....we have found that as a rule, restaurants in tourist spots serve the worst food. We have had a mediocre meal in Dol De Bretagne, a really stodgy one just around the corner from the Sagrada Familia in Barcelona and didn't even think of trying one of the eating places in the old part of Carcassone. There are exceptions of course, if you are prepared to pay a bit more and wander away from the tourist trap areas. We had some wonderful meals in Barcelona, at Spooniks and Tickets. Very pricey but fantastic experiences...

I don't like to say it but I think Brittany has some really poor eateries - at least now in UK there's more choice.
Creperie joints don't really do it for me - as a pudding possibly

More the inconsistancy then anything,I've had some good stuff but the next time I've been very poor.Twice is enough for me.
I don't do trip advisor as I think it is to open to abuse.

Sonnet, you are right about prices..we don't go for high prices, and we personally would rather eat out twice than once.
We spend a lot of time in Italy where the food is, in general, wonderful. Nevertheless we still eat mainly at the la lira pizzeria in bagni di Luca, and for those of you who don't do pizza, let me say that neither did I until we came to Tuscany, where bases are crisp and very thin...no STODGE. Prices are ridiculously low.
Other than that, where possible, we eat pizza in our mountain village piazza, where locals, to raise money for the village, do unlimited pizza in the village pizza oven, with wine, at communal tables for 7 euros and it is to die for, to say nothing of the ambiance, sitting outside watching the sun set over the mountains and "chatting" in itanglish with the locals.....pizzas are bl**dy good too.
