Ok....so I gather by what's been posted that the majority do not have any time for Annon (1, 2 or 3), either you ignore his 'ramblings' or are insulted by them.
It may interest you to know that earlier in the year Annon sent me a personal message to complain about insults that were coming his way.
However, I think I'll have to bow to the majority (or perhaps the vocal minority) and consult with Ali about banning him. From the contributions he's written of late it appears he is bowing out. Though I seem to remember he's done this on several occasions.
I do think we need an additional moderator, someone who will be more proactive, come up with ideas and help promote the forum. Keeping everyone in order and trying to take a balanced view on threads isn't easy and I'm not sure I can devote the amount of time that might need. However the forum may yet fade away and die a quiet death....it's up to you lot...

Its certainly not helpful to have Annon's approach to posts, written word is difficult to interpret when reading comments and not seeing the face. Annon seems to have wound a few folks up but I also think this forum along with others is going through a time of quiet - there certainly aren't as many newbies buying property and joining and also folks get bored of the same old ............. especially at this time of year with dark dreary days and nights.
Banning Annon might help ?? but will it fully resolve the lack of posts and lethargy ??

I appreciate the input and effort you have given to the forum Pete, but I'm afraid this thread is the stable door syndrome.....people have already gone, didn't want to be part of the anon dog and pony show....I can't see them coming back now....a look through the absence of contributors to threads over the past few months should have been the clue. Its nothing to do with controversial threads...had some good arguments on here...still friends afterwards. Also had some good (especially techie) advice.dish out to me personally, and I appreciate that. It's a shame....I took some time to look through my own past posts and there's one....a long time back where I was saying how much I loved the forum, what a pity it's come to this. Probably my last word so perhaps I shall just take this opportunity to wish you all a merry Christmas

Banning Annon 3 will not achieve anything. he will re-appear under a new alias. The first thing to establish is whether there are enough active members out there to support an active forum. It is clear to me that it is necessary to have some active censorship over what is posted to prevent insulting and offensive posts, that in itself should go a long way to reducing postings which deliberately upset or stir up trouble whilst allowing spirited but respectful debates.
It would be helpful if members could indicate if they would be willing to support this forum if the necessary steps were put in place to try and bring back the friendly, helpful and often amusing posts we all used to enjoy and participate in.

John : There are ways of banning him which will make it much harder to appear under another alias. As far as 'active censorship', that's only really effective if you are on here lots each day. If a 'hot' thread appears while you are out for the day, the sort of censorship you propose may not be effective as damage may already have been done. I did state earlier that I'm not as available as I was, we go out more and are taking more holidays next year.
I'd be interested if you could suggest the 'necessary steps' we need to put in place John. Actually no, I'll start a 'Forum suggestions' thread and see what gets posted on there. I'm not trying to be obstructive but will admit to some cynicism about the way the forum is going (or not).
I'd appeal to you, Bisdu and anyone else who may be disheartened, to give the forum until the New Year and see where we are after that. I'm willing to keep on moderating but am seriously considering whether or not to relinquish that position.

I personally think its not all down to Annon 1 two or 3. Ali has some part to play in all this as well. We used to have a quiz night and slowly Ali passed some bits of the forum over to others to manage.Annon can be annoying at time but going as far as banning him I think is counterproductive. I don't post on here very often now as the old members seem to have vanished.

I have 'spoken' and enjoyed joining in or listening from the side lines to many contributors on the site over the years the only comment I can make at this moment is ...... a long wistful sigh

It is encouraging to see some members showing concern at what has happened to this forum and I would encourage any others sitting on the sidelines to indicate any interest they may have to save it. I personally think that moderation here should not fall to one person and I am sure Pete feels somewhat alone in bearing responsibility for the current situation whilst receiving no help or suggestion as to how to resolve things. If the forum does survive it may help if a small number of members can become assistant mods and work together and discuss any ongoing problems. Pete has already indicated he doesn't have all the time needed to fully mod the forum single handed. I would be prepared to help out as one of a small number of members to oversee and discuss issues which may develop in the day to day running of the forum. I am not offering to take over the moderator's position, just to help out as part of a team. perhaps anyone else who would support this suggestion could indicate their interest. A problem shared is a problem halved etc

It's also encouraging to see you making this offer John...
I don't think you (or anyone else) need to be designated as assistant mods, you can be moderators I would think. For example the other forum that I help moderate (which is a lot larger and busier I must admit) has well over 10 moderators and about 5 admin staff.
Any help/suggestions/discussions would be most welcome...it's down to Ali to grant mod privileges....

I really don't know what people want on here,I continue to post when I have the time but there are many "non replies". If you don't want to start a topic or add to a topic, then don't complain when nothing happens. I don't want this site to end up like grumpy old gits in france, dominated by what we had for tea and my children are wonderful.
