We a planning a big road trip and I spend a lot of time You-tubing other peoples recordings of places we might want to visit.
Tried taking videos from a moving car last trip but of course it is jerky so am thinking we should get a dash cam.
Lots of online reviews are from people who just want the camera for evidence in the case of an accident but I want mine mainly for scenery.
I know nothing about them - are ones for scenery different?
Do they all have a gyroscope (which i assume reduces judder)
How long will they run for at any one time
can i download the info daily onto a blackberry notebook (32)..... we are away 70 days so there might be a lot of footage.
What is the least i would have to pay for one that will do the job i want.
best place to get one
thanks

Just thought of a "fault" on dashcams, most loop the recordings so that when the memory card is full it starts re recording over previous recordings. Mine downloads to my computer with no problems.

Bis....from what I've seen on YouTube most of these cameras produce a view of the road directly in front of you (which is what they were intended to do) Is this what you want, or are you hoping to see a somewhat wider view? Maybe mounting it a bit sideways to take in the scenery? You'll be limited by the sort of lens the camera uses, probably wide angle which will produce a distorted image at the outer edges. Take into account what BE has highlighted re the memory card rewrite issues, I don't know how quickly a dash cam fills up a memory card but it can't be too long, especially if you have it set to a decent resolution. I'd check out these cameras as well : www.amazon.co.uk/GoPro-CHDHA-301-EU-HERO/dp/B00O468GKM/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1424701460&sr=1-1&keywords=go+proMaybe they do a clamp so you can dash mount them as well...Go Pro have a good reputation I think...

thanks
BE Do you think i can download to a notepad - the laptop is too big to take.
Pete its on a 6 hour loop on low res, and 3 hour on high - either of which is plenty for my needs if i download regularly .
Am about to check out the go pro one now

The GoPro's are brilliant, a friend of mine has one. (CEO was a surfer in AUS!)
Have you thought about uploading your footage to a cloud server? (eg dropbox.com)
