Have you Word (and any other programs you use) as shortcuts on your desktop? If so try this :
Go to the shortcut and right click on it
On the list that appears click on properties
Select the 'shortcut' tab and find 'run'
Click on this and you should get a drop down list of 'Normal window, Minimised and Maximised'
Select Maximised and then 'apply'
One caveat : mine asked me to do this as an administrator...you may or may not have set your laptop up like this...worth a try anyway

Bisdu on my Asus laptop I have a help section on the start menu arrow down. Plus I can type a problem in and it comes up where to find it. Does yours have something similar?

Thanks for asking Sab - no I didn't - my friend who is pretty savvy spent about an hour fiddling about but it defeated him - can't fathom it either.
Actually I have another unrelated question - years ago we started with a wanadoo email account. came with a very long random password (on a printed sheet of paper#). - I kept the paper for years and the wanadoo was installed on subsequent computers. Now I have obtained this new laptop I can't find the password paper anywhere so do not know how to install the wanadoo email. No probs with my gmail - that is straightforward - but I cannot find anyway of finding out the old password for the wanadoo. When I log in on he old computer it goes straight in via a shortcut so have never had to put in a password - anyone know how to get wanadoo/orange to send me a new password please.

why not log on on your old computer then change the password from there.

That was my initial idea LM - but I cannot find how to do it as I am automatically logged in.
