Blimey JP wot a list
You really are a petrol head my boy
Oooo loving this
Be very aware of a long post - am like this when passionate.
On account of all my cars since I was aged 20 have been company owned is there any cheating allowed???
First own car was:
A 1968 1000cc Mini bought written off for £125 - put a pico exhaust, white weller 8 spokes and loadsa spotlights on her! The straight thro exhaust didnt last long tho on account of fuel consumption lol, re-sold the exhaust for more than paid for. I recall not connecting the carb hose tightly enough once and spurting petrol to work with the guage going down rapidly. She was always over-heating too, I'd drive down the M5 to Glastonbury to see a boy friend with the heating on full in summer, I did change the rad (I did that) and eventually the cyl head coz had it skimmed so many times it developed holes where holes weren't s'posed to be (I didnt do that) in the end and was always scooping emulsified crud out of the oil cap. PH966B was the oil filter and I think CA140 was the air filter? Then again CA2552 rings a bell for some reason. Plugs, points, condenser - the works
Those were the days. Ooops and once I also didn't tighten the nuts properly on the 8 spokes so had to put the fronts onto the back to stop the wobbling when I'd stretched the holes lol.
Somebody tell me why the su carbs were inch and a half and not the std inch and 1/4 - thats a challenge
Sold the mini for £450 !!
Next own car was:
Circa 1978 (T reg anyway) Ford Fiesta MkII (had also been written off previously) did 6 months int and nat rally following in that one (sim pic:
upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/6/68/Ford_Fiesta_MK1_front_20071023.jpg/280px-Ford_Fiesta_MK1_front_20071023.jpg) I remember one very dark, raining like cats n dogs nite whizzing up the A1 destined for Harrogate on the Lombard RAC when the entire electrics packed in. The then b/f and I managed to separate the wiring with leccy tape to continue to Harrogate and get her fixed properly the next morning.
Sold the Fiesta to a dim whit in a local village who wrote her off within 6 months.
Then went to company cars:
E84 UWW was a brand new Ford Escort which I wrote off one Easter Monday, she'd done 68,000 miles and was just a year old at the time that stupid man pulled out in front of me.
F reg Ford escort in white followed....
Now I'm getting scant on memory.........
G reg Sierra
H reg Sierra
J reg - oh the J reg was the best!!!! The J reg was a Sierra Sapphire 2L and my boss, who loved me, let me swap metallic paint for a spoiler! I'll never forget her arrival as I was living in my batcheloress pad @ the time, she arrived at 06:30 complete with a huge car phone installed. I drove round phoning everybody. I got the local Ford dealership to fit RS mud-flaps (called them service parts on the invoice for co expenses) That Sapphire and I travelled all over as a service/back up on rallies incl the Manx even tho she was a company car lol. I adored her.
I kept her til L reg when I got a shite white Cavalier which did my back in.
M was also a Cavalier in metallic red but by that time the co I worked for had upgraded me to lumba support in the seat. Gawd those Cavalaiers were dreadful with their off-set steering wheels.
N reg was a Golf GTi in fab bright red. I'd changed companies by then.
P was an Audi A4 - adorable car. She was a 1.9 TD and I adored her totally. The grunt of that engine even tho it was diesel was mmmmm. I was flying by then and would park her next to G-JNAS.
I changed companies again and got a crap Volvo which I hated with a passion. But it did bring me to France several times.
Changed companies again and 51 reg was a BMW in silver which I loved and also bought privately a BMW 5 series in black which was a stunning ride.........
Then moved to France with an Opel Zapphira which I mucked up by running out of diesel with on the A84 and she never did recover.
Swapped that for a Mercedes A Class which I hated coz it didnt have enuff power to take the skin off a nana.
Ditched the Mercedes A class for the current VW Tiguan in my fav colour blue with AL on the number plate
Out of all of them ........ #1 the Tiguan, #2 the Audi A4, #3 the Golf GTi #4 the Sapphire
Love speed, love driving
Thank you so very much for the thread title - and now you are allowed to sleep lol.
