I am convinced it's down to a dodgy adsl filter. Went out first thing this morning to Avranches, then Pontorson and then local town to get a couple of replacements only to find that Carrefour have now decided not to open on Sunday mornings except for their 'contact' stores and no 'contact' stores had a filter in stock - pooh! Onwards and upwards, re-tracing entire route tomorrow just in case they decide to open on Mondays ;D So, if you have a connection that you find on n off (blu) try replacing the filter that plugs into the phone line that you plug your modem into after - it might be that. (and make sure every phone socket with a phone on end of it has a filter too) Grump grump Rant over

Thanks Ali I will mention that when MOH gets back from his world tour, since I need to drag cupboard out to visit phone connection. Of course I have no idea what you are on about, I just thought that you stuck the jack socket into the phone line

How old is your router Ali, we've found that our routers last around 4-5 years then start to behave unpredictably

We've got a supermarket special modem then a linskys wireless router which gives access in the office then we've got cabled connections to belkin and netgear access points in the house and an outdoor hotspot access point.
As you can see we have whatever happens to be lying around, don't think it matters too much as long as it's wireless N compatible

Like Barty I have a bitsa system, bit of this and a bit of that, Linksys good and cheap. With one metre walls find i need to put in a repeater to allow the panasonic tv dongle to pick up Iplayer.
For clients I standardise on Draytec Vigors, now mainly using the adsl2 format. Just 'cos I have used them a lot and they work well over a good range and are easy to setup.

If I was starting again I'd use "netplug" type kit rather than running dedicated networking for the cabled networking. I've used this a few times and it's blinding and tho' the nodes may be a bit pricey the cable is all there already.

Yep used this to connect a showroom to an admin office block as they shared a mains circuit, lot easier than laying new cable and wireless blocked by the building construction.

Oh, we are having the same problem of late - changed back to our old moden (router thingy) which was OK to start with but that plays up now and again too. sometimes it's just flickering on and off or it goes off for a bit then have to turn on and off modem to get it back again. It's very frustrating. Also this site is very slow this morning and another site is down completely - but I don't think that's got anything to do with my connection! Bloody computers. Phone's playing up too and crackling so have switched back to old phone to see if there is a difference ...... bloody modern technology, never had this problem with old phones that had a lead!
