I looked at my introduction and well it's not true any more!! So here's an update. I'm 37 living with a french man my 3 children and some times my 3 step children. I'm in a rented house on the pink granit coast. I arrived with my ex in 2005 to house in the middle of brittany, it didn't work out but I stayed here with the children. I'm hopefully going back to work soon will update you all on that one later. Em

Good morning all, I have just joined the forum, I have been living in Limousin for the last 9 years with my husband but we are now thinking of moving to Brittany when our house sells (although given the current state of the market that probably will not be any time soon!)

Thank you Ali. We do not know Brittany and Normandy at all really, so would be interested to hear anyones thoughts on the various areas and their pros and cons. For the around 6 years we ran a website in Limousin for ex pats and as a consequence gained a lot of knowledge about the various areas and property prices, so it feels really strange starting from scratch in a new area, but really looking forward to finding out more. Hoping to start making exploratory trips soon, just got to find someone stupid, sorry kind, enough to look after the dogs So if anyone wants to tell me the highs and lows of their area, I would be delighted to hear your thoughts

Not sure if I've actually posted in this one before, and can't be bothered to trawl through all the postings to check ;-) I'm Rachel,I'm 45, been in Brittany since 2005, moved from Plumeliau to near Guemene sur scorff last year. Needed more land as we have since accumulated 3 ponies.... also god 2 dogs- a nutty irish setter, and a breton spaniel, plus a cat. did have 4 chickens, but we left them at the other house (the new owners were fine with that!) one daughter, 16, one hubby ++ something, works offshore at the moment and me. worked in immobilier for 5 years out here for my sins, now do translation, hand holding or whatever I can help people with, my remit is wide... trying to start up a pet sitting service, plus got a big project on next year as we are going to rent out our house for the summer season..... it's all go, never a dull moment......

Nice one Pachy Sounds like you've settled in already I have a friend who lives not far from Guemene so perhaps one day may pay you a visit at long last @ Noodle - laughing at stupid/kind enough to look after your dogs .......... it's always a challenge when one's got pets of any sort - got the tee shirt lol Difficult to select any one location here as both regions have their high points. I guess it's like anywhere else right property, right location, right price..... 12 maybe 13 years ago I stuck my finger on the map just at the base of the Cherbourg peninsula because I needed access to the UK easily so have 2 airports 45 mins away and various ferry ports to choose from, the closest ferry port being 45 mins too. Found a property within 2km from a town with all the services envisaged and 20 mins from the coast which is where the price drops. People 'say' that Brittany is 'posher' than Normandy, I wouldn't necessarily agree lol (ever the diplomat) but having said that the coastline of Brittany is stunning. I have found that central Brittany is like a 'little England' huge amount of ex-pats there. I'm up by Le Mont Saint Michel so we get all nationalities. It's great being close to Rennes (another 45 mins) for the shopping, the choice, the cinema (VO) Hard to say where to look really! Maybe make a checklist of what you want near to you and go from there?
