The OH who is approaching a certain birthday, took in the relevent forms and photos for driving licence exchange 3 months ago!!! He has heard absolutely nothing. He wasn't given a receipt at the time, but then neither was I when i exchanged my licence. In a couple of weeks his UK licence will be no good,so if he doesn't receive the French one by then I presume he won't be able to drive.when things work here, they work brilliantly, but when they don't it's a total pain in the rear. Has anyone else had experience of licence exchange?

I think you need to go there. Not sure why you haven't got a receipt - they normally give it to you when you apply I needed an exchange ordinary licence and also an international one at the same time. Apparently they only issue the international from the existing French one so you heave to get the normal one first then use it to apply for the international. I went in explained why I needed it and they issued both together - arrived the following day - so they can be very cooperative.

I would be tempted to chase things up. They have a habit of loosing forms big time here. As you say when all goes well it is great but when it goes wrong it is a nightmare. It took me seven visits to Lorient to get my licence exchanged mostly because of mis-information. I was told I didn't need a medical but when I took the forms in it turned out I did. When I saw the Doctor, he said I had to see a cardiologist then back to the Doctor, then back to the prefecture.............nightmare of beauocracy and I have to renew it this year (every 2 years when over 60)**
Bon courage
** Basic licence doesn't need re-newing every two years or a medical.
