Ever get the feeling someone up there doesnt like you? With the house move not resolved - (more on that later) today we got a letter from EDF to say the electricity would be off for 3 hours this afternoon so they could do maintenance in the village'.So, having no power, off we went off to play tennis. Got back to find they - EDF- have been in out garden and not only cut the trees down but dumped piles of debris in the garden, some right on top of our new pebble feature .... can't open the gate... not allowed a fire ...can't get to the trailer ... grrrr

Phone them up and get them back to clear the mess up. Plus nip to your local Marie and asked them to have a look. They might even phone for you. Were the trees in the way off anything?

How awful!Did they ask permission to cut your trees down? Would demand an explanation and a clean up operation.Angry for you.

Actually they did ask for permission because the trees were near the cables - BUT this was more than three years ago!
However they never came - no one turned up and the trees continued to grow and, concerned that there might be damage and we coud be held responsible, WE cut them.
Today they were nowhere near the cables, but they came in an cut them anyway.

Would tackle them about it.Our french neighbour trims our pine trees every other year.but only where the cables run through so the branches aren't touching them.

A couple of years ago EDF 'elagage' contractors topped out one of the pine trees lining my property that was touching their cable. (EDF supply comes in from the road, to a pole in the middle of my lawn and then to the house, so I guess it's their responsibility till it gets there). They left a mess which I had to clear up and managed to kill the tree as well.

Sorry to hear of your problems. EDF have to cut the trees down to a set height, and allow a little more for growth. When this is done it is not nice looking as they are only contracted to cut the half of the tree in question so you are missing a big chunck in one place, they cut at any time of the year so it can be very bad for the tree if it is a big job. Also unless instructed to do so will leave the wood as in France it is considered your proterty and to take it with out your permision is theft....... How ever to obstruct an entrance to a property would not be considered normal working practices or to damage your property. You could complain but not sure how far you would get.

I know i should complain, but to be honest i'm not up for a fight with edf right now as i agree that i will probably get nowhere.
Never mind - got a friend with a big trailer so its goning to be a few trips to the dechetterie.
