This bush was here when we moved in, so it's at least 13 years old (and probably older). In that time it's only flowered twice. I'd love to know what it is, I'm not even sure if it's wild or cultivated and if it needs cutting back.....

Looks to me like it could be a Flowering Quince - Chaenomeles but there are more experienced gardeners on here who will know for sure.

Yes - absolutely deffo a chaenomeles (quince)
They come in pink red or white - usually have sharp thorns
Can make quince jelly with the fruit (if you like that kind of thing.

Wow.....thanks.....it's barely a metre high and pretty weedy so I don't think there'll be too much fruit coming off it LOL...sounds very much like it was planted.....
