Wonderful kooky post of yours, chere mirabelle!
I understand that you're heavily influenced by maternal indulgence and a very proper sense of wifely duty to your OH....
Personally, I would get rid of the bench. It does nothing but encourage indolence...

My daughter has already got the sunbeds booked to plonk out here, ie I have been informed that I need to scrub the accumulated dirt off from where they've been stored in the barn!
OH does'nt do any gardening type stuff but son enjoys mowing the grass - its all ME I'm afraid! I have also discovered in the Potager that there is a lovely brick path under that grassy mess on the pathway so I shall have to attack it with the spade to shift off that layer in order to get to it. This is the trouble with a house that was empty for so long - things just grow crazily and you lose sense of whats there - yet its apparent that the gardens here were lovely when the old lady was alive and able to care for her flowers. There are all sorts of beautiful things popping-up but they've been strangled by weeds sadly, the roses were straggly due to neglect so I chopped them right back in the autumn and now they are re-emerging with vigour. It'll take time but oh well!!
