I used to love some of the puds we had at Primary School and after watching the Hairy Bikers last night have looked up some recipes: www.schoolrecipes.co.uk/index.php/school-dinner-recipes.htmlHave made the 'chocolate crunch' tonight int oven whilst t'oven was on. What were your best and worst experiences of school dinners ? ? ?

Can vouch for this recipe for choc concrete - made it this afty:
CHOCOLATE CRUNCH / CONCRETE CAKE
142g / 5oz Self Raising Flour 142g / 5oz Plain Flour 142g / 5oz Sugar 142g / 5oz Margarine (I used butter coz had no marg) 1 egg (28g) 1oz to (56g) 2oz Coco powder (Used 50g cocoa 100% Nestle desert powder)
2 drops of Vanilla Essence Melt the fat in a pan, add 2 drops of vanilla essence.
Mix in the Sugar, Coco powder and flour.
Beat in 1 egg
The mixture may seem a little dry. This is fine DO NOT add more water, it will turn from a crunch in to a cake if you do!
Place in to greased tin, push down really firmly.
Brush with water and sprinkle with more sugar. Bake at 180c (350f, Gas Mark 4) for 30 mins

We used to have some thing we called cornflake tart. layer of pastry, layer of jam, layer of cornflakes held together with some thing sticky, covered in custard. It was yummy. I always loved the mince beef pie and minced beef cobbler.
