Last year was the first year that I'd ever grown pumpkins and I'd chosen a huge variety (will go find packet for the name) Giant of something.......... Have grown them again this year, along the hens fence to save space, and again I have HUGE pumpkins Will take a pic soon. Any road up, back to subject, last year I made vats of basic pumpkin soup and froze it and it is a fantastic winter warmer. Have a 'vat' on the go this afternoon, I hadn't really used a recipe before so thought I'd just check today and here's one: www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/7730/pumpkin-soupThe only difference in this and my chucked together recipe is that I like some cloves of garlic in and use chicken stock cubes. Truly yummy. So if you fancy it and haven't grown any now is the time I think where we'll all see roadside sellers of pumpkins.

This is the size of the pumpkins - put the lens cap on top for comparison....

trollworld pumpkin soup (with a nod to Dick Strawbridge) Wash but don't peel any pumpkin or squash, cut it into big chunks, deseed, drizzle with olive oil and roast. (I cook it on top of the poele). Add 3/4 chopped chillis, and a bulb of garlic. Cook it all til soft. Scrape it all into a big pan, making sure you rinse off all the tasty gubbins stuck to the bottom! Add water and a stock cube, or better good home made chook stock. Simmer then blitz. Serve it with a sprinkle of chopped fresh herbs if you want to make it pretty, and some good bread. Yum

You wouldn't add 3 to 4 of the chillis that we've just grown - you'd be taken to a burns unit

Ones I have grown myself - from seed I have been using since I got here (given to me by another ex pat) and the chillis seem to get stronger each year!
