Its only in the past week that we have seen these beasties, first off they were basking on a prostrate conifer but then something altogether more sinister. They are hunting my little green froggies!! In fact last week my daughter and I were feeding the fish when there was a huge commotion & loud agonising croaking right below our feet, this 'orrible snake had grabbed a frog by the leg and was trying to drag it away. Maybe if I'd thought about it I would'nt have grabbed the snake by the end of it's tail and flipped it like a whip, in doing which the frog flew into the air and landed on the grass some distance away & said snake lay coiled on the grass glaring at me angrily! I took my chicken rounding-up stick and whizzed him into the bushes pronto. UGH! My daughter rushed over to find the little frog but he was Ok and hopped off back to his hidey-hole, slightly better aware of horrible snakes methinks. Later that day the previous owner of the house called in to say hello so I mentioned my encounter with these snakes because I'd never seen one at my old house. "Oh yes" he said "We used to collect them as kids - the orchard is full of them.........." ARGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!! I am now obsessed with finding more of the darned things now everywhere I go!!

Agggggggggg you brave girl! Fancy picking it up Sure it was an Adder and not a Grassnake? Easiet way to tell is look into it's eye Adders - red eye, vertical pupil (like the devil) G/snakes - orange eye with a round pupil How are you settling in - well apart from now finding that you're living in the amazon jungle

This thing was virtually black, white underneath with a yellow V shaped collar, well over a foot long and whip thin. The other one I have seen is brown with a yellowish collar but actually I don't really want to get close enough to look 'em in the eye as I think my recent Crocodile Dundee snake wrasslin' was more than enough ta!!
We were watching them yesterday evening hunting my little green froggies again so we chucked stones beside the frogs to scare them off before matey could get them.
I shudder at the thought of snakes. Urghhhhhhhhhh
