Any Miss Marples or Poirots out there who can suggest what is chomping it's way through my spud patch? Mostly they have just disappeared, but today it left evidence! My money is on Ragondin.

Not sure, Trolly, but a couple of years ago, all my carrots were eaten from the bottom up (all I had were empty tubes). It was ground squirrels that did it. I think the French call them Le Lerot allied to the doormouse). they are a very pale beige with a black smudges around its eyes. It's tail is almost bald but with a bushy tip. I have found a photo of one on the net and I am sending it to Ali to post it for me because I don't know how to do it.

It's mulots here who do that to carrots and parsnips, but usually only during the winter time. I've never had a mulot eat anything else that I'm aware of.
Usually the odd munch is taken out of a spud, which could be them, but could be grubs of some sort (chafers). Yours looks like a goat has been eating them though!
