I just thought it would be nice to have somewhere to recommend a drop of wine. I am absolutely no expert, in fact when I came to France I didn't even drink wine. I have learned a little since then but most importantly I know what I like which is a medium to medium dry red wine. I am probably the opposite of a wine snob and rarely pay more than 2.50€ a bottle. Prices quoted are approximate and may vary from one store to another Please add your own suggestions or comment on mine as everyone's taste is different. From Lidl Cotes du Roussillin......................... France .........1.70€ Tempranillo......................................Spain............1.30€ Montepulciano D'Abruzzo................Italy...............1.50€ From Leclerc Roche Mazet (cabernet sauvignon).........France......... 2.15€ Cellier du Dauphins (cotes du rhone)......France...........3.20€ (often on special around 12€ per case of 6) From Netto Forts de Fitou............................... France.....................2.15€ For Cider lovers............Ecusson Rose Intense.............. 2.85€ (Available from larger Carrefour and some Leclec) Enjoy..................................

J.P.Chenet, Merlot, quite mellow and doesn´t take the back of your throat out, seems to quite popular as the shelves are always half empty.

Some great tips there JP.
I like my red wine like I like my men - full bodied and fruity. Rioja and Chateauneuf de Pape are my fav reds. As a general drinkable one I do like the Roche Mazet (Merlot)
For the whites we tend to go for the cheap 1.10 fizz but a fruity sauvignon, sometimes a good Chardonnay and especially a few botts of Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin.
Lidl do a great range for our tastes both in red and white and to be honest I just head there and buy an outer occasionally and store that in the 'cave' for a few months........

I always look for certain vineyards whose wines are heavily discounted when a bit 'new' Buy a case and stick them away for 12 months. = decent wine for a very good price.
And Lidl are always good for a decent wine at a good price.
Roche Mazet wines are always good, the reds have a lovely oak cask flavour and their Chardonnay is a good all round white.

Don't know if you have a Noz near you but they have wine at next to nothing the only thing is it is normally there because it is at the stage where it needs drinking soon. A lot of the wine is normally €20 or plus and can be any thing from €1.50-6.00 ish at Noz. There are some very good ones at Noz Lannion right now a eg dominio de tharsys utiel-requena 2003 €2.50 is an extremley good one! But it is ready to drink now.

That is worth knowing Em, I think there is a Noz in Lorient. I have no problem with wine that needs drinking NOW!

That is worth knowing Em, I think there is a Noz in Lorient. I have no problem with wine that needs drinking NOW! Same here, John! We like that Italian one from LIDL too. We've never bought wine in Noz as yet, but there is now a Noz in Concarneau - you would laugh, Noz are never predictable (they claim to sell fire salvage goods etc so you never know what they will have) but we found Mr Kipling Mince pies and crimbo puddings in there just before Christmas and they were something mad like one euro per box of six pies. They had at least a week before they had to be eaten. The boxes were a bit battered, but the pies were good!
