Trying out something new for tonight! Braised Oxtail in Red Wine I've never cooked Oxtail before and apart from Heinz Oxtail soup don't think have ever really tried it. Bought enough for this recipe the other day, just over 4 euros, and it's simmering gently away now Will let you know outcome. ingredients serves: 4-6 750 g oxtail 2 level 1 tbsps plain flour (All purpose), seasoned with salt and freshly ground black pepper 2 tbsp oil 2 large onions, chopped 250 g carrots, sliced 300 ml red wine 600 ml beef stock 2 tbsp tomato puree (paste) 250 g button mushrooms, sliced 2 tbsp freshly chopped parsley 1 tbsp freshly chopped thyme (optional) method 1. Coat the oxtail in the seasoned flour. 2. Heat the oil in a large flameproof casserole dish or saucepan, add the oxtail and fry until evenly browned. Remove from the pan. 3. Brown the onions and carrots, stirring in any remaining flour. 4. Add the wine, stock, tomato puree and oxtail, stir well. 5. Bring to the boil, then reduce the heat, cover and simmer gently for 2 1/2 hours. 6. Add the mushrooms and herbs, mix well and continue to cook for a further 1/2 hour.

Sounds delish, Ali .... never done it with red wine .... but the rest of the recipe is the same.
Home made Oxtail soup is lovely too on a really cold, wintery day .. don't ask me for the recipe though ... all my recipe books are still packed up!!! But I remember that I brownded the oxtail, and let it cook enough to allow the meat to be easily cut off the bone, and then put the meat into a saucepan with some beef stock, carrots, potatoes (any vegetables you like really same with herbs), and let it bubble away, until the meat was cooked through and the liquid thickened up a little.

Funny nuff it's on tonights menu too ;D
The 4 euros of cows rear wagging parts have done 2 full meals (Oh that makes it sound orrible)
Looked up Delias recep with Guinness but Fli couldn't find a can in the shops hence switched to the red wine one and stove top/slow cooker instead of oven.
Gotta practise on lamb shanks soon !
