Lovely idea LK, perhaps we should move towards your direction this time, we've done 50, 22 and 35 perhaps we should travel a little towards 56.... The 'Swap Road Show' Thats got me inspired now to take some hard wood cutting of things, got some beautiful roses (Gertrude Jeykll (spl) ) being one and all sorts of shrubs and of course it will be seedling time too. Hi Ali ... how do you take cuttings of roses? I have tried so many times but have never had any success.

Hi dink, the way I've done it before is by cutting (with sharp secs) straight across a leaf node, moving up 2 or 3 leaf nodes and then cutting diagonally across (so you know which way is up), remove excess leaves then in a spare bit of garden pushing spade in, wriggle back and forth (spade not me) and slide cutting in with diagonal cut to top of cutting compact the soil around cuttings and go have a cup of tea.
Have used rooting compound before too which I beleive helps stop rot and encourages growth. I always seem to have to put in lots of cuttings for one or two to take so am very open to new ideas too.

Does that mean I'd better take some cuttings of my hardy fuschia? Or is everyone all fuschia'd out? I'm not fushia'd out I'm just starting out Ta LK

Right, then - the challenge is to grow loads of lovely fuschias for Bunty. I have a line of them all up my drive, and they all came from one bush that I inherited (and left behind for the lovely lady that bought my house) when I bought the house we used to live in in England. Maybe Admin'd better move this to a 'next plant swap' thread? I'm a nuisance, aren't I
