Didn't look up previous thread but just wanted to say at this point, nearly end of season, that thanks to all advice here we have had the best tomato harvest ever. We now have a really good qty bottled up in 2nd hand jars ready for all the soups, stews and curries over the winter and beyond. So thank you all who discussed toms

Ours in the polytunnel are good - but I lost all the outdoor ones. You need that tunnel up, Troll

Ali, my joy is deep, very deep, on learning of your success. I, on the other hand, trashed every one of my tom plants because of the blight. My capsicum plants, tall, proud, erect, manly even, went the same way for the same reason. My potatoes may not store well because they too are infected by the blight.
I can't tell you how glad I am that your crop is good. Members of the solonacea family of plants are all vulnerable to blight, coming, as they do, from South America, and wondering, as they do, what on Earth they're doing in Western Europe.
So your crop was good. Mine was utter, utter b*llocks. Meanwhile, I learn that there's a glut of Spanish toms, grown under plastic, and that prices are rock bottom. Praps I won't bother next year.
That's not to detract in the least from the joy I feel at your success. Nothing beats a home-grown tom. Enjoy!

Had to spray mine again as I discovered blight had hit the top growth which didn't have any bordeaux mix on.
The blight type thing which devastates my cucumbers every year has responded (cross fingers) to bordeaux mix as well, as there are cukes now forming on what looks like an almost dead plant which just some life at the top! Will be spraying my cukes in future too as being wiped out 3 weeks after starting to flower is not worth the bother!
If I didn't spray I would have no tomatoes at all as we have blight here even with no rain, it's in the soil I think!
Have brilliant toms now, didn't know chillies could get blight but they are next to the toms so are getting sprayed anyway, whether they like it or not! ;D

I had some blight on a few outdoor plants, so have removed them all. The plants in the poly-tunnel are still looking very healthy so far!
I do keep it well ventilated at all times and remove as many leaves as possible, the more the air circulation the better. I have also stopped growing potatoes as this is normally where blight spreads from.
I would advise anyone with outdoor toms with no blight yet, to stop the head of the plant, if they have not already, and remove most of the leaves.
I am already planing for next year, no outdoor toms and less in the poly-tunnel, as we have so many to make sauces with that we could supply a small supermarket.
