As in ail, portail .............. both ails are pronounced as 'eye' So,.................. how does one pronounce Email Thought of that one at about 3 am this morning!

Depends how rabidly francophone you are. Some say ee-mayel, some say emeye. Better yet, those who won't face reality - c'est un courriel en français!

My daughter says it's "ee-mayel" shortened to just "mayl".

Yes, I thought about that one.
It works the other way round too. Have you seen the new Maille mustard advert on TV? Most people I know in the UK call it 'mayle" so maybe this is a bit of an education for them.
