My toms have always been like triphids; I grow cherry toms in the g/house for squashing and bottling. (aka 2nd hand jars)
They have always been out of hand in terms of growth and machete is needed for entry.
Thanks to your fantastic blog this year I have them under control big time by plucking out those offenders at the leaf stem. They are looking really really good!
I have some outside too under a small plastic cover and they are as strong as anything - your method used again.
Also I have 6 more still in pots awaiting planting outside - is it too late for any success with these - should I just compost them now?

Feel just a little cheated, had hopes.
Sue was my favourite of all of them.

Not too late Ali, we've just planted out some side shoot toms, they'll be later than the earlier planted ones obviously, and I'll stop them with fewer trusses, but they'll still be producing before the end of the season. Then there's always indoors for ripening the green toms during October/Nov/Dec!

Thanks for your kind comments Ali. As for the late toms, as Madame M says it is not too late, just cut the s off when you have a few bunches.
I do tend to stop my outside ones a little earlier as they are more prone to blight outside.

Brill, shall plant them today. Poor things were left (but semi-looked after) in pots and are in flower and pretty strong so they should take off given enough water Yer can never have too many tomatoes

Yer can never have too many tomatoes Oh yes you jolly well can! Mine will be ripening up before I've got through HALF of last year's stored toms!!!!!!! And I've stupidly bought loads, sown loads, made side shoot ones and have left all the self seeded ones in place too........ What am I like? I just hope someone will be having a plant/produce swap in August and September......
