You sow the berries! ;D However each one contains loads of seeds so then you get a clump of loads of little plants which need pricking out, so I guess you could open up the berry and separate them all out into individual seeds, but that's too much faff. I just sowed berries into a seed tray last autumn and left them in the coldframe, then in the spring when they emerged I pricked them out and then potted them on a few times. Now overdue for planting out but as I have no info on planting one year old plants in pots I'm just gonna bung them in as you would normally plant a plant in a pot. All the info available is for planting one year old 'crowns' which are dried out bare roots which is how you normally buy them, then they are planted with the roots spread either side over a ridge of soil. But I reckon that is also too much faff to wash all the soil off my roots. Anyway I am planting 14 plants! So I will cross fingers and wait and see - only another 2 years to go! ;D

I couldn't decide how many as I have heard such conflicting stories about how they do/don't do well and how many to plant for 2 people.... and as I had 13 potted on healthy specimens and one smaller couldn't give it away one ..... have 5 to chuck and then no more watering the darn pots!

It's finally planted up!!!!! Interestingly some plants had amazing roots and some had not much at all! Still putting up little sprouts occasionally though and I'm sure they will be much happier in the ground now.

Here it is. The cat is happy with his new toilet and the squirrels are already buying their walnuts in it.

That looks fantastic MM !! Lovely wood-work going on there and all straight too, no wonky. BartyB is certainly spreading his seed around - I have another 30 or so plants from Barts offerings to go in the ground somewhere. The lovely specimins from Elfy have already got their new home

The Term went out and bought the wood and it was pretty straight which makes a change! He did all the hard work bless him - I just did the planting out. Looks a bit boring though and I shall have to stop myself from making a flower bed on either side to camouflage it!!! Then of course I won't be able to get at the asparagus so I must stop thinking like that. ;D
