The recipe is - sow in succession. However I sow about 6 varieties in succession, then thin them out and transplant them, so I have the same problem. ;D But at least I have chooks and neighbours and neighbours' chooks so they don't end up being composted!

I mix up all the salad leaves in 1 packet, and sow a pinch from that every couple of weeks.

In England I used to sow a row of 1 metre every couple of weeks of different types and graze, as did the neighbours. Now I'm sowing a couple of drills per seed tray and swapping / giving away when I get the balance wrong and planting the same one metre rows ish
Transplanted some peas and courgettes. Now if only the sweetcorn will grow it can join them..........

And I've brought Ollie the Owl out of retirement, from when we used to manage a tiny vineyard in Southern England. All is GO! And I'm off in a mo to pick up some more pots and trays.

Tip for getting sweetcorn to germinate, which I learned last year. If you have problems like me, sowing whole bloomin' packets only to get one or two come up , try this! Put some damp kitchen paper in a tub (like an ice cream tub), put your seeds on top of this, spread out, then put lid on and leave somewhere warmish indoors for a few days. Keep peeking every day and make sure it's still moist inside, and the seeds should germinate very quickly - this way you can see whether your seed is still good or not. Then once little roots have started growing pot on into individual little pots - there still may be some that don't grow but boy did it make a difference! I had tons of sweetcorn last year and no need to spend a fortune buying umpteen packets any more!

I've been digging up weeds too - one plot is full of self seeded huge paddock grass plus the horrible horrible chickweed - it was just left to do its own thing in winter as this is where my kale and PSB is.
Thankfully one bonus to dry weather is that they all pop out of the soil easily and the soil shakes off so I want to get it finished before any rain comes!
Otherwise it is all starting to look like a potager with little broad beans and peas and things coming up. Yippee!

Put the sweetcorn in a wetted tub the other day Have planted taters in pompipoo centre, the runner beans look like they've been frosted. Have to replace with 2nd wave. Interplanted strawbs with different types of lettuce and rocket. Put out my first slug trap, little slimes have attacked my sunflowers The wall of eggshells was breached. Using a sunken tub with "33" Export and roof ridge tile. I shall experiment with different types of beer. Anything other than beer any good?
