I've given up - the donkey & pony ramraided my patch and ate everything! I am going to wait now until we move house and then hopefully I can have a more secure plot where the bandits cannot get in!! Poor Mirabelle, thought it would be the birdie ones who would be the naughty ones.....

Let the battle 2011 commence. the woodys were watching and smackimg their beaks while I was sowing the peas. I've done my usual "pea borstal" and enclosed them all in plastic bottles, helps stop the mulots munching the seed too. I've dried scores of eggshells ready for the slug war, and planted tansy at the edges of the Brassica plot. Any other tips?

I will have my egg shells ready! Planted Pumpkins, Thyme, Parsley, Lavendar , Beans, Peas, brocolli, corriander, more different types of lettuce, sunflowers and other things which I've forgotten. That funny yellow veg was Patisson, Sunburst. I've found my companion planting database culled from various sources - Wahoo. All is GO!!!

Yikes! Have been out off Garlic Mustard already - attracts midges!! But then again attracts Hoverflies and Orange Tipped flutterbys...... Having a quick looksee also found this on companion planting: www.gardenzone.info/articles/indexnew.php?article=11 at this rate the potager here is gunna look like Kew gardens - I can see companion planting taking off in a big way! Flea beetles - got them last year, though they didn't do too much long-standing damage they did slow growth down. Found Cat-Nip as a companion plant! My carrot experiment has worked pretty well, diggin carrots now. Planted 2 rows really late last year, Octish, over-wintered and they are edible! The broad beans that I'd transplanted to outside are doing fantastically, am hoping to get older growth on them before blackflies arrive! Somebody has eaten one of the pea plants *cross* but more are on the go inside to replace any casualties. In the ghouse the white cabbage has popped up already, haricots rotted (too damp) so will plant new seed outside in mid April instead, lettuce into 2nd leaf so they'll go out sometime during this week (cloched). Lots of annuals and perennials for the flower gardens well on their way too in there. Also found this: www.gardenaction.co.uk/fruit_veg_diary/veg_planner.asp which reminded me to mulch the rhubarb. Time to put in summer flowering bulbs - so went to Bricomarche and bought some beauts on promo, dirt cheap, 95c a pack!!. Will go find the labels and descrips. Talking of flower beds, am really chuffed that all the splitting I did a couple of weeks ago with Japanese Anenomies, Iris, Daisy things, Crocosmia, Coneflowers and more has resulted in another 6ft of herbacious for free! This year I've lowly dog-fenced it so hopefully will lead to a better display instead of squashed mangled mess. Only things I got chance to do today were to mulch the herbacious flower beds with 'pin' and cut back the Forsythia, it had practically finished flowering so to get best for next year pruning is now. Had a really good couple of weeks out there, not full time of course woe is me, but quality time, the weather has been superb. No rain here yet tho, even on Sunday with the pot meet we didnt get rain at home All the butts r MT Oh, and got no nails now either ;D ;D

Garlic mustard is more commonly known as Jack By The Hedge, which I have growing wild all over my woodland bit.
Did you sow seed of it? It's like a weed here! ;D
