The recent drought, now over, focussed our minds....
Those of us who planted out, didn't water, and left our plants to their own devices, might rightly claim to occupy the heady heights of superiority...
'Cos all of my plants survived, and went on to greatness, despite my not having watered. Yep, I'm better than you losers, because you think that you know better, and you don't - I've just proved it.....

...... you play the part of a dithering loser very well, littlemouse, even if it's motivated by faux modesty.....
Out there are genuine losers in their billions, but I don't think that you're one of them....
It remains true that in the world of gardening many are our actions which don't influence sh*t. Somewhere we've got the idea that we know best, and that if we don't act crop failure will follow...
In our temperate climate it's all already taken care of. Even in a period of drought... So get a life is what I say. Go help some old dear next door with something, instead. Leave the crop alone.
ps: Spinach plants just keep coming. Apparently growers in the Third World grow it, er, 'cos it just keep coming. Drop down on your knees and give thanks. If it's good enough for the Third World, which truly will know what's good for it, it's plenty good enough for me.....

As I was away working for 7 weeks the garden went to pot(how much is that a gramme!),a good few days later and it looks better ,even got some tomatoes still ripening.I didn't plant massive amounts this year but had decent crops off the produce planted.Potato, onion ,beetroot the strawberries didn't do so well,it's time to change the plants I think.

,,,, am glad your garden went to pot, littlemouse....
'Cos then we are reminded (and f**k, how many people seem to me to need being reminded) that we are subservient to Something Else, that we're not as wonderful as we think we are... IMO!)..
And despite your absence and neglect you still got some crops, which made themselves happen 'all by themselves'.
That some things didn't work out for you is also par for the course, IMO - every single season I don't get everything that I want - but I do get most of what I want, most of the time, without really trying...
~Which leads me to conclude that there is a God, that I am grateful for everything that is sent, and, frankly, who the f**k am I to complain?
ps: On the question of subservience to Something Else my dog, Jake, is evidence of happiness incarnate for being subservient to me, cos I am subservient to Something Else, am motivated by Something Else, am guided by Something Else, and lo! it all seems to work out for us both!
pps: Yes, I'm pissing in the wind posting these things.
