I have been trying to grow tomato plants from seed for the first time this year. There are 8 that are ready to plant out, however the weather is playing the fool and its been raining on and off for 3/4 dayswhich has delayed me planting out. Ready also are runner beans, courgette plants and spring onions which really ought to be called summer onions seeing as they will be ready closer to summer then spring.

It's a cynical view that you take, mon cher littlemouse, when you bemoan the seasonality of your Spring Onions.... Some of us get them started much earlier in order to, er, get them in Spring....
As to the progress of tomato plants, etc, (congratulations on making life happen by sowing seed, and not copping out and buying young plants, which any numpty and his dog can do, and you're not just anybody). You know already that the weather, and the season, can be a Cruel Mistress, so, pause, reflect, choose your moment before planting out, the timing of which varies from year to year...
It is possible, in my experience, to commune so closely with each and every season that your timings are so good, so intuitive and so intimate, that everything you do just goes mental. I say that this state of heady bliss is something to reach for - if you're male it'll make your willy go hard, and make you drop down on your knees to give thanks that He ever chose to put breath into you....
