My dog is getting on. He sleeps, and sleeps some more.
When I see him sleeping there, and think of how he was when young, I give thanks that Nature decrees that he should sleep now. Only then may he continue to live. I want my dog to live.

Along with his pre-disposition to conserve his life forces, to function at a much lower level than he once did, to sleep, and so not demand from his heart what he needed in the chase, along with this is the contribution made by medication, science, and our ability to prolong life...
So the pooch is on tabs. My own inclination to let Nature take its course is tempered by the recognition that medication can bring something to his condition. Were it not so he could easily be dead by now. In much the same way that so could we. He lives. I want my dog to live.

Update! Jake's no longer on tabs. He's a frisky puppy again....
Full of the joys of Spring he gladdens my heart with his antics. You make me smile, dog, you lift my spirits.
Thank you, dog. You reach the parts humans don't seem to reach for me.
