It was while at Fuerteventura airport, awaiting a return flight, that I noticed something...
Sat in the outside bar, reading a book, everyone else seemed to be staring at their phones. Couples, for whom I would have thought a holiday was a chance to spend some 'Quality Time' together, may've just as well been single. Worse, they couldn't even bother to raise their eyes to watch a plane taking off. Is it me, but isn't a plane taking off in all its majesty worth stopping what you're doing and admiring in awe?
What were they doing on their phones? Texting family to say that they were at the airport? Checking their emails?? Can't it wait? Do you have to track yourself and keep in touch 24/7?
Weirdo that I am my phone stayed switched off. Give me a book, and a plane taking off any day....

We do watch planes taking off, but I do also let my oh know were I am. He recently dropped me off at the airport several times at silly am times. He let me know when he got back home as I insisted he drove home, whilst I waited to board and take off. The same when I got to Paris, let him know I landed safely and was waiting for a connection onwards. I also let my sister know as she gets flustered when she is waiting for me.I think these days its nice to let family know where you are. But that's me.

My very lovely gorgeous pouting sabjac,
You make a strong case for phone overload. Girly vulnerability when travelling alone is reason enough to keep in touch, so that we manly men can intervene if anything goes wrong. Like if the plane starts nose-diving into the ground, or if suicide bombers board the plane, we can sort it out.....
'It's nice to let family know where you are', you say, oh gorgeous pouting One. Agreed, provided that you have a family, and that they'd care, really truly care, if you did....

There's a HUGE difference between one or three ikkle messages and spending the entire time fixated to a small screen.
As most of you know I've been working at a Chateau (Bis will love that word) since Feb. I cannot believe the fonetoxcity that has surrounded me. Even today, a dad with his two kids and wife was stuck faced into his phone through 1hr of breakfast, totally oblivious to anything else. Thats not life!
My goodnessness just what is occuring.
I hear thro the grapevine that an HGV driver smashed into a family car on the A34 Newbury and WIPED out 4 people recently........... he got 10 years...... they lost their lives.... is it worth it?

These gadgets are hateful in the way they create alienation.
No, its the user who create the alienation, alone in a crowd?. God, who and what is so important that one has to clasp a 'toy' and be so afraid of being 'out of touch'
more to come

I suppose that growing up without a telephone in the house, makes a difference.I must have been 10 when we had one installed at home and that was a party line, remember those. The first mobile phone I had was here in france, given by the firm for work, with restricted dialing. It was useful for ordering stuff but it meant you were always contactable during working hours. Now that I don't hear very well I use a mobile mainly for texting. Is it useful? Well up until now I haven't had anything happen that has needed a mobile phone, the other questions are will there be a signal? is the telephone charged ? is there any credit on it? In conclusion I don't need one.

My phone was emitting an occasional 'beep' today. I think that means the battery is low. "Recharge me, you b*astard!" It seemed to say. I told it to go away. It's got me talking to it whenever it makes a noise - just like a woman. I don't 'do' wimmin either. They take over your mind, and your life....

A, littlemouse, slight, littlemouse misunderstanding may've emerged between us, but you make a powerful point nonetheless...
My remark that 'They take over your mind and your life' was directed at phones, but I concede that the same remark may be directed at wimmin.....
A penetrating insight you provide when you add 'money' to the list of what wimmin take. I speak from experience when I say that I've unloaded shedloads trying to satisfy their insatiable appetite...
The same can't be said of phones. They're relatively cheap compared with taking a woman out to an eye-wateringly expensive restaurant meal, and when women make noises it's usually because they want to be taken out, and you're 'a tight-fisted pig' if you don't honour them with your wallet.....
So, on balance, phones are not so bad. But whatever you do don't keep a phone and a woman at the same time. Cos then you really will suffer from overload. It's either/or......

I take it you know that women are like computers and come preinstalled with the programme,"you will pay and pay" as far as I know it is not possible to delete and is updated weekly.
