I think Annon's intention is to get people posting, even if it is by appearing to be rude, confrontational and egotistical. One the one hand he has partly achieved that aim, even though I'm extremely loathe to pronounce him the forums saviour (as he seems to aspire to be).
I did say that postings of a divisive nature would alienate members. Now it seems that it's not the posts but the poster. Heaven knows we don't want to lose members because of objectionable posts. So, I think I have three options that I'll address to Annon. Cut down on the ego trips and being determined to 'liven up' the forum by doing so. If you don't want to do that maybe you would consider withdrawing gracefully, or of course I could just ban you as a disruptive influence. I know this is all coming across as a bit Godlike but I don't think the forum can leak members because of one person. No doubt I'll now get a a diatribe in the form of a PM but the ball is in your court.

Surprised your off-topic comments are allowed to stand, but that's up to sonnetpete. I think you take things too seriously, and too personally, and I urge you to chill out, and show your maturity. This thread is about HIGNFY, and some posts are positive and supportive of that. What you think of me is irrelevant. What I think of you equally so. Grow up.
ps: Our posts crossed, sonnetpete. I'm not your saviour, or trying to be. I'm setting out to encourage posting, which I've done. Just ban me from the forum if you want to kow-tow to the moaners. I rarely stick around long anyway.

Hang on a sec peoples ..... you've been wound up by annon3 perhaps? But why? Yes he posts thought-provoking stuff but is that bad? You don't need to read or reply. Annon3 started this post by saying "Your forum needs you, and you it, more than you yet know....." Absolutely YES, this forum needs you and I remain hopeful that you enjoy the forum. On the subject of the BBC licence - well I do not pay for it. Yes I pay for the French TV through 'Taxe d'Habitation' but that contributes nothing towards the BBC. I get BBC for free via satellite (Freesat) even 'catch up TV' !! and also use a VPN for all of the BBC and ITV channels on laptop. Have I Got News For You - LOVE IT and the new Top Gear totally fab - to be able to watch Saturday Kitchen from my bed is sublime. No soggy bottoms here Yeah I'm a Freeloader, but I don't give a darn hahaha x (paid nuff already)

Hi Ali good to see you on the site. As I am in the UK I pay for the BBC stuff, no telly in France at the moment so I opt out of that, now if I could get work to make me redundant then I would be in France more so would need to get an aerial, broadband etc. and pay. As for the other no comment just ignoring it :-) PS over in a couple of weeks for the weekend, has everybody run out of tyres to burn yet cos i have some I could bring over for them .

Love it D59 Tech is moving so fast right now I really believe there is no need for sat or aerial. Sincerely I get everything I would like to see here thro my lappy and then via HDMI direct to TV. To be honest I'm not a TV watcher, but it's nice to be able to dip in as and when

I don't think. Off topic posts only come about by someone going off topic in a comment themselves and as a moderator you must have a certain relaxed attitude about it but things can stray way beyond a little side conversation. It soon descends into name calling and insults being thrown about. Nobody wants this on here. Yes, we can be called the 'cosy club' and maybe we get our feathers ruffled too easily. I think that's the way people want this forum to be and I think we can develop it without the need to be controversial in our subjects. I'm not going to ban you, maybe that's what you want. To be honest I don't think you know what you want, go or stay, it's up to you...

Ali When i need help can I give you a shout , no idea how to set that up.I suppose the first thing is to investigate broadband also no phone either. My French neighbors say that through the phone line it is veeeeeeeeeeerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrryyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy sloooooooooooooooooooooooooooow and as in the sticks I need to explore more options. still in the dark ages considering we have had the house 12 years this year.

Ali, the ability to watch TV streamed onto your laptop is dependent on your broadband speed of course. Here, it's less than 1MPS and I'd get the dreaded buffering sign quite a lot. We use Freesat (though not on a Freesat box). There are many more satellites up there than just the ones for the BBC (sorry touching on my hobby now). I think it will be a while before TV goes totally via the web...

Ok I am officially thick i had to look this up:
Kowtow, which is borrowed from kau tau in Cantonese (koutou in Mandarin Chinese), is the act of deep respect shown by prostration, that is, kneeling and bowing so low as to have one's head touching the ground.
