Any suggestions gratefully received
On Wednesday our house-sitters arrive - on Thursday we are due to drive to Italy for a month, and we have to be in Venice next week for our daughters wedding.
Problem arose yesterday when we realised there was a petrol shortage. We have 2 cars - the comfortable one which we prefer to go in and another. Managed to fill the tanks - The one we prefer will, from full to empty take us 400 km (the other car has also got enough to do about 550km but is small and uncomfortable and we have a lot of stuff to take) We have a number of empty cans but are not allowed to fill cans
The border with Switzerland is 900k
Does anyone know the current situation re - getting fuel just south of Paris - and also anywhere between there and the Mont Blanc tunnel.
I have looked at going via a different route ie. Belgium, Luxembourg or Germany but all destinations are further than our tank will take us.
We have tried to siphon the fuel from one of the vehicles in order to fill the cans but both have anti siphon devices.
I cannot afford flights and car hire for a month, and in any case we also have a load of stuff which we are supposed to be transporting for the wedding so flying is not really an option.
There is remarkably little news on line - am wondering if anyone knows of an AA type organisation that could tell us if we are likely to be able to fill up near Paris and again 100k before the border, or is in contact with people south east of here who can appraise of the current situation there
