Thanks Sonnetpete. annon3 is still hiding behind the annon status, perhaps a refugee from another site. Perhaps partaking in something in a glass too early in the morning such as water or something! always bad for your mood. Anyhow too busy at work trying to earn a living to spend time on this person.I need this poster as much as a dose of something catching :-) My last word on this persons ranting.

Stop slagging off the poster and comment on the points raised by the poster.
Scarcely a constructive word has been posted about the proposal to have 'shock-jock threads. Stick to the point and shove your personal attacks.

So here's a word about 'shock jock' threads...no...
I don't think I have time to moderate people taking umbrage, scoring points off each other and generally throwing toys out of prams. It's pretty obvious to me that such a thread would lead to bad feelings and divergent, polemic differences of opinion. Personally I think it would deter posters rather than attract them..

I am not going to drag my reply down to the level of personal insults and offensive language. Just like the perpetrator, It isn't needed on this forum, it isn't wanted on this forum and I for one will not be responding to any of your future postings Annon.

I have an idea Sonnet, how about moving the thread to 'friendly debate' - here : brittanywi.proboards.com/board/9/friendly-brittany-britwiimages-headers-categoriesThen it will become a debateable thread and all who enter know into what they enter..... What do you think ? I think annon needs a soothing stroke, a gentle caress, a little support to be assured that the world isn't all that bad (those are my 'constructive' words) - I'd offer the practical.....

I think it's a good idea Ali and I'll do so.....However it will need a weather eye on it and if it gets too personal or nasty, I'll probably lock out the thread.

I agree. If sonnetpete doesn't have the time to moderate fully shock-jocking is not a practical proposition. This point was made at the very beginning of the thread. But I'm not sure that the forum has got anywhere towards increasing its active membership. Apart from demonstrating to itself that slagging off the poster is not acceptable - I understand that sonnetpete will tighten up on this point - so that's some sort of progress.
Worth an airing. I look forward to your lively debates. Will be happy to contribute. Whether or not anyone replies.

To pick up on some of the points Annon mentions :
No, I can't moderate full time. Even though I'm newly retired, I've got other things to do (including two weeks away starting next Thursday). The forum has had a few new members of late, whether they are going to be active remains to be seen.
I am still to be convinced that a 'lively debate' won't descend into name calling and insults eventually. It's worth a try I guess, however I'm stuck for a subject to debate that won't drift into religion or politics in some way.
I will state (with my admin hat on) that any derogotary posts which don't add to a debate will be removed and if posters still can't be civil to each other I'll close/remove the thread altogether. I don't want to be anonymous (as they seem to be on AI) and trust you will let me know if you think I'm being unreasonable.

I totally agree Sonnet It is a shame we cannot have 'lively' debates here anymore without it descending to a personal level, we always used to. I agree religion is an immotive subject and rather personal too, but politics whilst not everyone's cup of tea, affects us all and should be a subject which can be discussed in a civilised manner. When all is said and done, without differing opinions there would be no discussion.

I'm quite happy to have a politically flavoured debate (that's what I tried to do with the Brexit/Remain thread) as long as it doesn't get nasty. I don't know about everyone else but I'm fed up with the Referendum and the fact that no one from either side has produced facts that haven't been taken out of context for their own ends. Therefore maybe we should leave the 'debate' thread until after the referendum has taken place?
