I've read through all the posts Bisdu and suspect that the OP has misread or misunderstood this 'letter', rather than it being a 'wind up'...

The daft thing about this is that when I claimed my UK and French pensions a few years ago, I was told categorically by Newcastle that as i work in France then under EU rules CIPAV had to claim my UK pension and then pay it to me with my French pension having carried out a comparison of what I would have got in France if I had worked there all my life. Very confusing, so confusing that CIPAV flatly refused to contact Newcastle as "they won't write to us in French" !!!!! I spent nearly a year arguing that EU rules said I could not claim direct with the UK, indeed the pension papers from Newcastle completely confirmed this point. CIPAV simply would not budge and ignored all further correspondence. In the end I put the UK pension application papers in to Newcastle and got the UK pension within a week or so!
So perhaps the AI thread has some justification, but as usual instead of the OP just ringing Newcastle and speaking to someone in English they have to post on AI for a dozen or more incorrect and stupid responses!!!

I could be 80 by the time they'll let me claim anything if it continues like this Love your comment Meldrew - so true !
