watching the video of it and the reports i would say its more than likely someone with mental problems. the reason its being treated as a "terrorist incident" is so Cameron can say i told you so.if that would have been a terrorist attack he would be lying on a slab in the morgue with a hole in his head.

But the point is the police had no way of knowing if it was just a nutter with a knife or not, considering London is supposed to be on the highest alert for possible terrorist attacks then the failure to respond with armed officers is appalling, I'm not saying they should have shot him but the fact they didn't give themselves that option is very worrying.

I suspect there was an ARV at the very least on standby or possibly in attendance. It's probably down to the officers on scene to decide whether the incident warranted an armed response. Like Tomcat, I've also watched the video and read reports and tend to agree that it's more likely to be a person with mental problems.

The Daily Telegraph
The Tube stabbing raised questions over Britain's response to terror attacks with a former Scotland Yard commander saying it was "alarming" that armed police were not present.
Hmmm.
The Times
Armed patrols will be increased on the transport network after the attacker went on the rampage.
Hmmm.

From the same Telegraph article :
John O’Connor, the former head of the Flying Squad, said it would be a concern if armed officers were not sent at all but it was sign of lack of resources. Asked if he was surprised, he said: “Not if they were not available. It certainly would have been an additional security measure. “I would not be surprised when you consider the number of or lack of number of armed personnel. “It is alarming. We should have thought about this years ago. We still rely on the first people on the scene having to deal with a situation, whoever they are, whether a uniform officer or firearms officer.”
....and later :
"Police were called at 7.06pm on reports of a number of people stabbed at the station and uniformed officers from Waltham Forest arrived five minutes later. The man was detained by 7.14pm. Police said they were treating the attack at a “terrorist” incident and a house in east London was being searched. It is believed the man was acting alone and officers were examining whether the man had previous mental health issues."
Because it only took three minutes to deal with the incident and detain the person, it may not have been possible for an ARV to get there in that time.

1 That story is nearly a year old.
2 it was supposed to be a revenge attack for the killing of Lee Rigby.
3 it is far better for news coverage if a white man is involved to call it a racist attack just as its better to call it a terrorist attack when a Muslim is involved.
4 when it went to court the attacker was found guilty of attempted murder and sentenced to life. 5. the knife man from this weekend the alleged terrorist appears in court today yes you guessed it for attempted murder.
you need to read past the headlines the papers will only print what the government wants you the hear.
