Meldew,S/mkt. don't seem to have the same idea of competition here as uk,they all vary prices day to day for the same items eg.little gem lettuce,99 c.to € 1-99.the next day,we have to accept it having lived here so long.

We also try to get fruit and veg. from local growers, if we need other items we usually get them from our local Lidl, which is pretty good. We are very lucky in that we get lots of free fruit and veg. from our Spanish friends and neighbours, almost daily we find a bag of produce hanging on our door, and at the moment we are overrun with aubergines, marrows and almonds..!!!! we are running out of ideas....Help....

We've been full time visitors to the market for 13 years and he has been there all the time. So obviously he is successful at his pricing. By the way we are British as you are probably even though you live in France.

When I first moved out here I did go to a few markets but found them very expensive, went to buy a Roasted Chicken at 15€ I very quickly said no thanks!! When I see how much people pay at our local Supermarket Cold meats and pate etc........... counter I think they must have a lot more money than me. I think the French shop in a different way, most get help with their lunchtime meal so only have soup or something light in the evening. If you look in most French people's trollies you will see lots of yoghurt, sweet sticky bread, Nutella, coffee, toast like biscuits and paper tissue hankies!!
I do my main shop in Lidls, it's cheaper, cleaner and the fruit and vegs beats any of the other Supermarkets hands down.
