Hello everyone
It's been a while since I lasted posted and have had a good time catching up with all your postings. I suppose it's the time of year now that we all stay indoors more as the garden is looking a bit sad and I'm just waiting for a dry spell to get the garden ready for Winter. I have been looking on frugal websites as I feel living in the countryside and having a fair size bit of land I'm not making the most of it! I would love animals but MOH has put his foot down on that one as I couldn't eat them and end up with vets bills!! I do have 4 hens though.
Last year I let them free range and had a beautiful Orpington Cock and 5 gals but sadly the local farm dog got them so their replacments are back in their tractors, at least I can find their eggs now! Is there anyone else out there with the same ideas as myself? so that we can exchange tips etc... from growing to baking and getting the most of the land?? This year I haven't had to buy much in the way of salad, toms,cu's etc.. as friends and neighbours have been giving me produce.
I find Winter in Brittany quite long and have recently lost one of my part-time jobs which I am pleased in one way but it did get me out, but in one way I think I'm better to use my time indoors making cheap but healthy meals instead of putting petrol in the car etc... I go to French classes twice a week but still looking for something else to fill my days, so what do you get up to?

I too find winters so long, and expensive for 7+months of heating,we have planted spring bulbs, cabbages and parsnips and broad beans this w/end and are putting the garden to sleep so to speak, hopefully we will get away to Spain for the whole of december or more and see some life,it seems worse now after our luxury break,as we only have our weekly seances to look forward to,we try to contact the living, ! ! have never lived anywhere more boring in my life, highlight is our meals, all home cooked and rarely anything processed.Your OH is right in my opinion, many here wanted land and animals, until they realised the work and costs and ties,so chin up and keep up the language lessons.

Well after having now lived over here for about 4.5 years I can honestly say Neither of us is ever bored. Both of us enjoying the life we lead. Gardening when we can weather permitting. Walking for me plus trying out Zumba tomorrow.Oh does his cycling with the club. I must say I have never got enough time to do all the things I like.

Thanks for your replies, sorry it's taken a while to reply but computer playing up !! I would love to be able to get away for a while to somewhere sunny not that this Summer has been a bad one. MOH works ( were both under retirement age) which is good as there lots of people wanting to find work and not much of it around, but we cant plan anything which makes it difficult.
I love living here and hopefully nothing could drag me back to UK,I return to see family but glad when the visit is over. My elderly Breton neighbours hate Winter too, apart from Friends visiting they seem to spend most of their time indoors too!
Well I'm going to look at what your eating today to give me some ideas now that salad is a distant memory something warm and filling I think.
