I am thinking of buying an electric log splitter.
Has anybody got one?
What sort do you have?
Are they up to the task?
Any info or advice appreciated.

Never used a log splitter of any description but all I can say is that I bought an electric chainsaw (had always thought them namby pamby) but it is brilliant and just as powerful as a petrol motor one. Don't spose that was any help really was it x

We have had two. The first was a cheapo Brico offer jobby. Went wrong after a few weeks and went back to the Brico workshop. The miserable moron in the workshop said it was faulty because it was "dirty". Got it back a few weeks later, carried on using it and it burnt the motor out, took it back and they replaced it( a total loss is always much better because they can't argue about it). Carried on using the replacement but decided to get a more powerful one that is on a stand and wheels which is much better. www.al-ko.com/shop/uk/al-ko-horizontal-wood-splitter-khs-5200-5-tonne-includes-stand.htmlYou can get these mail order/internet or sometimes on offer in the Bricos Have used it ever since, will split large pieces of oak both green and seasoned, if you can lift it onto the machine it will split them. The only bits it struggles at is the knotty gnarly bits of seasoned oak, just turn them round and go at it from the other end. Tips-Sharpen the splitting knife with a grinder and keep it sharp, it works better, I suspect they don't supply it really sharp for safety reasons. Ps -sold the old one on for €150!!!
