Brakes have started making a bit of a noise so made an appointment for a free diagnostic (and devis) at PROFILE in Loudeac. I was preparing myself to have to pay about €300 as i thought the disc might need replacing. Not impressed when I got a devis for €522 ...they said "if you must have a Nissan and a 4x4 and not a Renault clio" ....decided walking looked like it might have to become an option and told them i'd have to wait for a week or so.
On the way home we called at NORAUTO - I tore up the Profile devis so only the parts and labour were showing but none of the prices were. We gave then the Profile spec and asked for a devis for exactly the same thing.
Came back with €221.... THREE hundred and one Euros less - double checked - yes it is parts labour and tax - they are doing it on saturday.

Couple of months back i had a quote for a Central Silencer for my old Renault 21. 330 euro that was just to supply it and for me to fit it and would have to wait 3 days for them to get it.in the end ordered it from Germany 54 euro and delivered in 4 days.

Tomcat thats a great idea when you can do it yourself....actually OH said he would buy the parts and do the job, but .... its brakes....its cold out there ....haven't got the tools or a flat covered surface .... happy with the Norauto quote but suspect regarding Profil, there is no such thing as a "free diagnostic"

Totally agree with you its no fun working in this weather i have a covered barn to work in but still got a dirt floor not too bad in the summer . were lucky enough to have a local garage that will fit the parts you buy and just charge for fitting them .

Agree about the cold! I have had a 'free' week so I thought I would get some winter jobs done on my moto. Have a car port with flat concrete surface so having moved the Jag out in the cold I started work. 10 minutes later could not feel my fingers as they were frozen and lying on my back to get under the motor to undo the oil filter cover I discovered that my body is that of a 68 year old person - I couldn't bloody well get up!!!!!! Thinks - here am I servicing a bike when actually it is me who needs a service!!!!

I had a life changing moment when I reached 50. I realised that buying brand new cars was equivalent to burning money (plus not as much fun!) . Also doing my own servicing was a fools game when I could pay someone to do it for me. Most modern cars are only serviced annually so it isn't too much to spend.
