Thought it only lasted one day because the French don't 'have' Boxing Day but anyway I do agree Tinks. Though it's gradually become more commercialised in the 13 years I've been here it still has an old fashioned feel to Christmas here. Going off what I've heard personally and seen on the TV I wouldn't want to be in the UK for Christmas, which friends and relatives can't understand....

No it isn't. It is what you make it. Quiet dinner with son and family yesterday. Daughter and family visiting us for dinner today. That's it in the BE household. Not been doing extra shopping or anything, no need to with a freezer!!

Reading this I have come to the conclusion you all have no family over here and that you are having christmas as a cpl and not a family. The shops here at Lannion and when we went to Brest 2 weeks back are and were over run. My MIL informed me she hates going the 24 Dec to buy her seafood even though she has ordered it as it is the mess in the supermarket and tills over run she is there over an hour just to pick it up and pay for it. Shopping for presents for family is just as bad as it was in the UK. I think your christmas depends quite rightly as BE said on how you spend it and with whome................

We actually finished up watching 3 back to back programmes of "BULLSEYE" yesterday. www.bullseyetvgameshow.com/It was compulsory viewing at Mum's in the 70's. To see the state of the art electronics that could be won was fantastic! A "portable" TV that was a blooming big cube and probably weighed 5 kilos or more. A video recorder with a cable joining the remote to the box itself. One major prize was Vauxhall Viva "C". I had one of those all of 30 years ago. It had to have new bumpers and wheel covers inside the ONE YEAR warranty. They had corroded away! All is quiet now with the prospect of making salmon fishcakes for dinner!

Quiet xmas , surely a contradiction in terms.
Yet another unquiet xmas. House full of family. Daughters back from abroad for a while, in laws, nieces and nephews.
Lots of snow on boxing day, expedition out to pub with all and friends and dogs for lunch in pub.
Invited old friends round for new year, and some that have not been around for awhile, bed down where you can, will be noisy.
Bring it on ......
plus toast to absent ones ....... a our age a few passed so more reason for not being too quiet.
ps family group discussed spending next xmas in New York ...... decided it didn't last long enough ......

Whatever turns you on,Lib .Had the same for years in England but prefer the French way now-just xmas eve and xmas day spent with family and friends
