Long ago I learned of sheep farmers not feeding their dogs on Sunday. It was a day of rest too for the dogs so they were inactive.
Needless to say that by the time they were fed on Monday those dogs were very hungry. The farmer, as the provider of their dinner, was the most valued thing in those dogs' lives. They, naturally, would do anything for him, which is an attitude the farmer would want from his dogs.
A dog doesn't bite the hand that feeds it. Where that connection is so strong, as in the case of the farmer, you have a mutually happy relationship.
Do you feed your dog everyday? Why? More than once a day? Why? Do you leave food out for it all day long? Why? Is their a single person who feeds the dog, or do you share in the feeding? Do you vary the amount of food according to activity level that day?
I say make sure that when he comes to the bowl he licks the bowl clean. He brings real hunger and knows it is you who has provided the food. If he doesn't finish it off, remove it until tomorrow. Never let food for a dog be taken for granted, as it is for us, and look at us....

That was one of the best posts I've ever done (IMO), but, as the zero replies show, utterly wasted on you...
You can't take away from me that I know dogs, after 60 years of living with them, yet you have no comment to make on some pretty strong views that I have???
ps: By posting here now my name comes up on the thread as the last poster. I'm going for total domination, the total Annon Show in every thread. So as to shame you all.

Replying to a question on dog feeding when I haven’t a dog seemed rather inappropriate.

Dear littlemouse, I've achieved total domination of the forum - it's The Annon Show - so you're not allowed to reply now...

Mon cher littlemouse, mon frère...
You're the least likely person with whom I could make a connection. Not known for your fulsomeness, given, as you are to one-liners and a passing quip, I've got to wonder what it is we have in common....
The answer, of course, is that we have everything in common. The answer is God.....
