He has taken a backward turn!!!!! For 2 nights out of three, he has been a complete pain. Launching himself at the kitchen door and scratching it approx every 30 mins for about an hour and a half!Just as you start to drop off the racket starts, then because you are expecting it again you lie there awake. We are zombie like today but hopeful that he will be fine tonight. The other blip is his OTT reaction to other dogs. We sat outside the lakeside cafe at Bain de Bretagne yesterday, enjoying the hurricane, and when another dog came within reach Fada went absolutely bananas! I think he has had such little interaction with other dogs that he just doesn't know what to do so goes completely mad. Socialisation is obviously the answer, but difficult until we can be sure that he will not be aggressive towards other dogs.We are going to get in touch with a trainer, nearby, who has a dog which she uses for socialising other dogs. Fingers crossed!

He's still a young dog, isn't he BC? Do you think he's getting too big for his boots? A firmer hand needed!

He's just three Annon, and yes you are probably right. We have not responded to the door scratching as I figure it's an attention thing so if we respond he's getting what he wants.

How about getting a soft muzzle for him, the nylon webbing type not the plastic nose-cap you may feel a little more relaxed coz you would know he couldn't do any harm. I have a brown spaniel effect that I've failed with to his detriment, if I could turn the clock back I'd have been much more tough with him when out and about and made sure that we got out and about as much as possible. But I was scared that he would get hurt as a result of his aggression to other dogs and it always is entirely uncomfortable taking him anywhere. Also I reckon my brown effect knows that I am edgy and probably thinks I'm edgy because of the other dog, which, probably makes it worse. Chick, you know that you just have to be tough on him when he is naughty. Catch him at it and make sure he knows he is wrong and then leave him. Ignore him for a while. Don't pander to it - he'll take advantage and you may have an on-going problem. Hope you enjoyed your hurricane

It's more the noise he makes when he sees another dog,I don't want to muzzle him as it'll reinforce his confusion and I don't think he IS aggressive . The hurricane was bracing!! Oh and he was fine last night!

We have the same problem with Sam, when people or dogs come near he goes crazy, growling and barking, he frightens people, not always a bad thing , but if we let him go to them he just has a good sniff and wants to play. There is one exception to that, one of our neighbours, he has for some reason never liked her and will not let her touch him. When walking him we have trained him to sit if a vehicle comes by and have found if we do the same for people or other dogs he will just sit and watch them.

It seems to me, pandj, that you have a good relationship with your dog, and that his anti-social behaviour is a case of misplaced 'protection' and warning for you. Jake behaves the same, until I tell him to curb his enthousiasm...
Socialising with a dog trainer sounds like a good idea for Fada, but some dogs will not respond completely - jake hasn't, he can't be docile, so I've found running the legs off him quietens him. Dogs are less likely to kick up if they're knackered.
Fada being such a young dog would benefit from 20 miles a day in the field. If that's not feasible run him on a beach and get him in the water - all of my dogs have got chucked into the sea, even the reluctant ones, they can all swim...
