Daft practice that is. Why can't they make it clear....
Any road up, in order to avoid footy and generally crap TV I did watch 'Rush' and truly loved it - best quote "
“A wise man can learn more from his enemies than a fool from his friends” Rush."
(Rush is about James Hunt and Nikki Lauda - F1 in the 70's)

I think any funding for broadcasting should be recovered via an additional fee built into the purchase price of a TV. I believe this is how it used to be funded in Australia.
I've seen 'Rush' Ali. On the whole I thought it was an excellent movie, though there were one or two inaccuracies (e.g. James Hunt didn't beat up a journalist in the toilets after a press conference).

To JohnP and all my (un)happy friends! Apologies, for not sending in the usual moan about the current batch of crushingly boring sport on the telly, but I have been a bit busy of late and have not had much time for posting. However, in preparation for this wonderful summer of sport, Father Christmas and my dear wife (I think they may be the same person!!) ( )bought a large selection of DVDs for us to watch, we have also recorded all the Harry Potter films and a few others like Titanic (haven't been able to stay awake long enough to see that one!!) So, when there is no motor sport on (which is most of the time!) we catch a bit of daily news (French and UK - and what a difference between these two) watch the charming Evelin on TF1 at 19.55 each night for the weather (how does that woman manage to stand like that, and who the hell is her wardrobe mistress!!!!!)pop into the hot-tub for 1/2 hour and then launch into the films. Perfect evenings

Woz sorry to learn, Meldrew, that there's not much motor sport on the box, but would like to point out that there's not much angling on either.
After football, angling is the most popular sport in the UK. Girlies who spent their formative years playing with dolls may not be able to appreciate the thrill of angling, but we boys can. To watch a float first twitch, then slide gracefully under - oh be still my beating heart! - takes some beating....
Nope, there's nothing on the telly worth watching....

I used to go out in my little boat years ago and do a bit of mackerelling, trouble was if I caught a load, so did everyone else and you couldn't give them away. As for sitting at the side of a pond all day to try and catch something inedible and throw it back in, that doesn't hold any appeal at all. To get back to the topic, the BBC are excelling themselves, let's just call it the sport channels, BBC 1 & 2 are showing Wombledon and ******* football all day while 3&4 are off air. This weekend sees the start of the Tour de France in YORKSHIRE (what is that about?)and the commonwelth games lurking in the background, Is there no end to the disruption and boredom. When will the BBC learn that majority of the population do not want to watch balls and bikes 24/7

A few facts culled from viewing figures published on Digital Spy....
The Spain - Netherlands match was viewed by 8.2 million people, with a peak of 11.5 million.....other matches the same day had around 3 million viewers......I don't think either Le Tour, Wimbledon or the Commonwealth Games will attract nearly as many but there is a very healthy audience to follow these events. Now I'm not sure what you class as a 'majority of the population', (though maybe you should have termed them audience) but clearly that audience is there....
BBC3 and BBC4 time share their transmission times with CBBC and CBeebies, it has been thus for some years.....
The Tour De France has begun in other countries for some time now.......
I appreciate this sporting overload isn't for everyone. I'm certainly not watching it 24/7.....I have other fish to fry so to speak.....obviously not ones which I've caught myself.......it's unfortunate that the programming is full of sport right now and yes, I agree it would be nice to have an alternate antidote to sport. However irate you may be (justifiably so I guess), the TV companies are serving the majority of their audience with what they want right now.......

A superb post by the sp person, who, though a boy, is still very likeable...
From a position of considerable intellect and wisdom I say unto this forum you will not find a better post than sp's, anywhere, ever....
There is an antidote to the 'surfeit' - an sp word - of sport on the telly, which is called 'reading books'. Or, if for reasons of incapacity or downright idleness, your reading skills do not take you past 'Noddy', go to other channels, where you will find a 'surfeit' of junk....
Well done sp. Get behind this man, you lot. Your life will be enriched by it. Banish forever the numpty bigots of the internet!
