I would hate to dissappoint you Annon.
My opinion for what it is worth is that there should be a time limit on these kind of accusations. I don't think it is right to drag someone to court 30 or 40 years after the alledged crime unless new evidence comes to light. If it is serious enough to report 40 years later, it is serious enough to report at the time or at least within 10 years. Can anyone remember what they did on a particular day 40 years ago let alone provide an aliby.
The legal system screwed up years ago over the Saville accusations and this is a gross over reaction.
Nearly all the resulting high profile court cases have been brought at a cost to the taxpayer of millions of pounds and failed to obtain a conviction. I suspect Clifford will probably win his appeal.

I am apt to think that the system in other countries whereby the abuser pays a huge amount of dosh to the victim unless the victim particularly wants to prosecute could be an option. I feel uneasy with convictions this late on. Brutalised people abuse people who then are brutalised. I like the South African way of working through the horrible things that people have done in the past. It is indeed a difficult problem. I also think that people are getting sick of the whole thing now; whether right or wrong.
