A member of the cannabaceae family.
Given a rich soil and full sun it goes mental.
Known for its medicinal properties it also has recreational uses. Its ability to inspire great works of literature and music is irrefutable. It has the capacity to change the World, or, at least, an individual's perception of the World. The singer-songwriter Bob Marley may have dabbled with it.
It's also cheaper than malt whisky...

I don't know the work to which you refer, lib, but you've hit on the question of the costs of producing this herbal remedy, and I would like to draw your attention to the night sky over South Norwood.
In this part of London an eerie glow radiates from the rooftops. Folk busy themselves in the production of this herb using gro-lights, in their attics. It's cost efficient, requiring only a few bulbs of the right colour, and since they've been doing this sales of malt whisky have slumped....

All I know of South Norwood is what my Grandmother told me.
She was in service, as a lowly maid, to a rich family who lived there.
She never mentioned electricity in her time.
Gas mantles and candles I assume would never compete with grow lights.
Yours in Awe,
Lib
PS Wonder if she was 'worked' by your Forebears ...........
Have you read her book?

Not a great fan of the old weed. Puts me off when I see the fear in my client's eyes when the see horrific images and are scared witless. Many haven't 'used' for ages but still have auditory and visual hallucinations.

A timely reminder, Cheeky Chops. I think I'll stick with malt...
Wonderful creative post of yours, lib. I wish more people would post like that - I'd post more if they did , oh, that's why people don't...
My forbears regarded servants as little better than vermin. As a boy I was told not to go anywhere near them, on account of their not washing, and carrying disease.
Since then attitudes have changed. And the working classes have got more uppity. They demand their 'rights' (wot rights?), a 30-hour working week and a living wage. The worst thing we did was provide universal education. They should be beaten with a stick. Hanging's too good for 'em, etc, etc....

That's a very good question, Eyri. It does have medicinal properties, and is prescribed in certain cases, but we must beware of false prophets, 'cos we just don't understand everything, especially the C thing.. I take the view that everything's worth a try, and if it doesn't work the trying was well worth it anyway....
