Noodle, just a thought but have you got Google Earth? If so, you can use streetview to 'walk' round a town and get a feel for what it's like, the buildings, how commercialised it is, etc.

St Brieuc is beautiful in places you just have to know where to go!! The coast is very different worth a quick look, the bridges spectacular.............. It has tons of shops and good places to eat. I have started to go all over brittany with my french partner loads of places I'd like to revisit and some once is enough like the point de raz(think thats right spelling lol). You need to list the areas or towns you are looking at houses in then we can give you places next to them to visit. St Brieuc is less than an hour from pink granit coast, central brittany, eg lac de Guerlédan, less than 2hrs to Dinan/Dinard, about an hr to St Malo, 2/3hrs to Quimper loads to see in that area but you need days...... I could go on hence why I am asking where roughly you are looking at houses.
