Last night neither of us could sleep, probably a by product of too much alcohol at the birthday celebration the night before. It must have been at least 3am before I eventually fell asleep and had an undisturbed night. Today we went to get some shopping and discovered one chewed and one broken gate in the pool area. The wisteria was broken and chewed in several places, it covers the front of the barn and along one fence. There were huge prints on the pool cover, at least 4 inches across! The gate to the back garden had been forced through at the bottom snapping 2 bits of wood off. The back garden lawn (well mud bath!) has loads of scrabble scratch marks on it and the THING must have dug it's way out under the fence between us and next door forcing the fence up.Tilly dog was very interested in some smells this morning presumably from the thing. The puzzle is how did it get in? The only explanation is the field is higher than the paving in the garden,so maybe it jumped over and couldn't get back, why I don't know as it mus be huge. We presume it's a dog from the prints which are St Bernard sized. Are we safe in our bed? Was it a rabid hound from Hell? It's never boring in the country that's for sure.

Could it be a Hungarian Hairy Horny Humping Hound or the even rarer Siberian Sh*t Sniffer

If your Tilly was interested I'd guess a large male fox. My two dogs are really intrigued when a fox has been round and in the places it's scent marked. Whatever you do, don't let her roll in anything a fox has 'deposited'. My largest dog once did on an off lead walk....I had to drive back home with all the car windows open....

No way was it a fox with feet that size, but do know what you mean about fox poo,it has THE most disgusting smell. Tilly is past rolling in anything, being 15 1/2, Toby loved fox poo though.
